Pad stitching

Pad stitching or padding, is a stitch that invisibly joins the interfacing to the shell fabric in the lapel (also called revers) area. Padding creates a spring and three-dimensional shape to this garment section, making the lapels curve hollow towards the body. This shape will be retained permanently. The technique is used on the lapels of the jacket, and also on the collar. The stitch itself is also used as a temporary basting stitch and to make shoulder pads or wadding extensions. It is essential to hold the work correctly as the result will otherwise be unsatisfactory.
